David Seddon examines a largely unknown chapter in Che Guevara’s involvement in the revolutionary anti-imperialist movements in Africa. He focuses on the question of how far Guevara was involved in promoting and encouraging the liberation struggle in what was to become Western Sahara. In the first of a two-part blogpost, Matt Swagler considers how the Russian Revolution drew the attention of Black intellectuals and workers from Africa and across the African diaspora. He argues that the revolution cemented the importance of Marxist ideas in debates about colonial and racial liberation for decades to follow.
